Inheritance: Movie Review By Myflixer

Inheritance: Phoebe Dynevor, recognized for her performance in Bridgerton, takes on the role of Maya, a woman who, after dedicating the past nine months to caring for her terminally ill mother, suffers a breakdown on the eve of the funeral. Overwhelmed with grief, she wanders the streets of New York, stealing bottles of alcohol from nearby stores and briefly interacting with a stranger. At the funeral, Maya is shocked and displeased by the unexpected appearance of her estranged father, Sam (portrayed by Rhys Ifans), who has been absent from her life for many years. He expresses a wish to make amends for his past and offers Maya a lucrative job at his "real estate consultancy" firm. Upon further investigation, Maya discovers that her father's business is involved in laundering money for affluent clients through real estate deals. Despite the dubious nature of his operations, Maya, facing a lack of alternatives, accepts the role of his assistant and accompanies him to negotiate a deal in Egypt.
During their flight, Sam reveals the real reason for his long absence: he was involved in international espionage, and he now utilizes the skills he gained in that arena to run his current business. Although initially filled with anger, Maya soon finds a bond with her father, realizing they share similar traits related to deception. This connection is highlighted when Maya adeptly shoplifts various items, including sunglasses from an airport shop and a trinket from a bazaar in Cairo. While at dinner, Sam steps away to take a phone call, only for Maya to receive a frantic call from him moments later, urging her to leave the restaurant immediately. Shortly after, she receives a second call from a man claiming to have kidnapped Sam, demanding that she follow specific instructions if she hopes to see her father alive. As a result, Maya is thrust into a chaotic adventure that leads her across Asia while being pursued by questionable individuals.
The Bourne Identity and its subsequent films reinvigorated the spy thriller genre in the 21st century by removing the allure typically linked to the adventurous exploits seen in the James Bond series. Although Matt Damon's character travels internationally, the environments he encounters are portrayed in a more ordinary light, with action taking place in commonplace settings rather than popular tourist destinations. As global connectivity increases, the travelogue aspect that once fascinated audiences in the 20th century has diminished in attractiveness, particularly as viewers can now readily find comprehensive travel information on platforms like Myflixer.
